Your Earth element in Late Summer –

The pause between Summer and Autumn.

The rhythm of Late Summer relates to the energetic function of your Stomach and Spleen and has everything to do with our relationship to Mother Earth, our own mothers, our identities as females; the girl within us, even though we have grown into adults and our sisters and girlfriends.

How we relate to harvesting, feeding, nurturing, nourishing every cell in our bodies which contribute to the suppleness, plumpness and health of our muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, blood, veins, bones and organs.

It is our warmth of empathy and compassion of heart from our Fire element which nourishes our Earth element and enables an appropriate ‘holding function’ to extend our hands and mother hugs to our loved ones in their time of need and to provide nourishment at meal times, which sustains us.

As we know and resonate with, it is often the mothers, the women who hold the forts together, however, if we do not nourish ourselves first, there may be a tendency to end up feeling abandoned and crying “what about me, who is going to nourish me or hold me when I need someone!”

Our male counterparts may not escape these feelings as well as we all have Earth elements within us and it is often their relationship with their mothers and sisters, which determines their relationship with their girlfriends and wives later on in life!

This season and energy is also about how we digest food in our digestive tracts, which incidentally start in our mouths with chewing our food enough, then through to our oesophagus and to our Stomachs. The essence of our food is then sent to our Spleen where our T Cells, B Cells and our natural cancer killing cells contribute to our immunity. In TCM it is also considered that the Spleen provides nourishment to our muscles, holds the blood in it’s rightful place ie our veins and vessels, so if we are ‘worn out’ and not nourishing our cells and tissues with enough food and fluids, we may have signs and symptoms of varicose veins, endometriosis, haemorrhage and bruises, miscarriage, uterine or bladder prolapses, hernias, aneurysms, atrophy (wasting) of muscles and skin.

Typically, when everything has lost it’s holding function and we are worn out with no more to give.

Earth natured people usually like to gather people in and around and feed them, foodies you may say! They love to ‘nest’ and their homes are very important to them. It’s important to feel grounded, feet on the ground and they usually love gardening and tending the vege garden. As said, we all have Earth elements within us, as we all have Stomach and Spleens!… however, our true natures may resonate with one element more so than any other.

Our elements may be out of balance or have a meridian ‘block to healing’ ie. the large intestine Qi-energy, may not be flowing through to the Stomach and Spleen, so you may experience reflux, burping or nausea which is your Stomach Qi rebelling upwards due to not receiving Qi for it’s normal settled descending function. You may have emotional stress, worry or overthinking going on which is difficult to digest, to the point of feeling absolutely gutted! You may feel the need to eat comfort food or carry excess weight which may effect your female identity.

All these imbalances may be in excess or due to diminished function of your Earth element and can be treated with Acupuncture.

Do you like earthy colour’s: yellows, tans, mango, peach, apple green, lime, warm colour’s?

Are you a morning person? Do you like to sing? (Earth natured people have singing voices)

Do you like being a Mother and is this really really important to you?

How is your relationship with your Mother? Did you feel nurtured or hugged enough or over mothered?

Do you feel enough? Do you feel nourished with food and nutrients? Are you anorexic or bulimic? Are your cells acidic and do you drink enough?

Do you worry a lot, obsess or over think things?

Are you connected or disconnected to your body? Do you feel like you are in your body? Do you like owning your body?

Do you feel like your internal container is full or empty?

Just some positives or negatives to ponder over….but the important thing this season is to savor Earth’s abundant provisions of harvest and eat ripe peaches, pears, apples, nectarines, apricots, cherries, raspberries, veges galore and drink KANGEN water which is alkaline, hydrated with hexagonal molecules for absorption into your cells, contains antioxidants and is anti-aging….literally plumps your cells up with hydration, therefore not accumulating or coagulating together!
